Foreveryoung Green Smoothie

Do you like the name?  I wasn’t sure what to call it and since its just loaded with antioxidants and naturally detoxifying ingredients I wanted to call it my foreveryoung green smoothie.

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cucumber 1 cup chopped celery 1/2 apple 1 banana 6-8 large kale leaves blanched 1/2 avocado 1 teaspoon spirulina 1 teaspoon flaxseeds 1 teaspoon chia seeds Greens powder ( Ive been using this one recently) 1 teaspoon cacao nibs 4 brazil nuts Optional : Protein powder (I use an organic pea protein/rice protein powder and rotate them)
SERVES: 1

This has been my breakfast for the last few months over summer and I am loving it. It totally powers me up for the day and gets me energized ready to work. I played around with the recipe a lot in the first few months and I seem to off found my recipe I stick to each and everyday now. Its absolutely jammed packed with nutrients and the fibre in it will leave you full for hours.

I generally have 1-2 large glasses for breakfast and I tend to sip on it and “eat” my smoothie. So those glasses may take me 5 minutes to drink some mornings and others an hour while I am writing a blog or answering emails.  I then store the rest in the fridge for the rest of the day. Generally another glass will go with Ben at some point of the day and I may then have a glass with lunch or after a horse ride in the afternoon. Its such a great way to get extra vegetables into your diet and I love how great it makes me feel.

I always blanch my kale, I simply boil the jug and then pour boiling water over it and let it sit for 1 minute and drain. My body doesn’t respond well to raw kale so this just helps me get all the benefits from kale without the oxalates present in raw kale. After the smoothie has blended for a few minutes and is smooth I then add in some little bits of crunch with the brazil nuts and cacao. The brazil nuts give me my zinc and other amazing nutrients while the cacao nibs are loaded with magnesium. Plus the combo crunch makes it yummy to eat.

It makes plenty and is best drunken fresh, so I make sure its consumed within 24 hours of being made. If I have days when I can’t be bothered making dinner, the rest of the jar may end up being just that. Doesn’t matter when you have it, its just a great way to add more vegetables into you diet.

INSTRUCTIONS
Put it all but cacao nibs and brazil nuts into a blender with water and blitz up until smooth.
This for me usually take around 3 minutes of blending.
Just at the end pop in the brazil nuts and  cacao nibs for 10 -20 seconds.
