Ever since about my second year of university I have suffered from various forms of candida overgrowth and experienced a huge variety of the different symptoms that are linked to it. You have to love what a good first year at university can do for you gut health. Oblivious at the time and just enjoying every aspect of student life and of course no regrets because you only live once!

It isn’t until now that I can look back and put all the pieces of the puzzle together and understand why I wasn’t as healthy as I could be. May of seemed it from the outside but inside my body was telling me a different story. All of this has lead me to where I am today, of which I am extremely grateful for my body putting up all these symptoms for me to listen to and learn from. I could of course ignored them all and who knows what concoction of pills and medicines I would be on to day for each of them and in what state my health would be in today. The majority of my symptoms were linked to candida.

I had it all from unexplained mood swings, seasonal allergies, hormonal imbalances, perioral dermatitis, severe digestive issues and good old yeast infections!

What Is Candida
Candida is the scientific name for yeast, which is a form of fungus. We all have candida within us in small amounts naturally to help aid in digestion. However when we consume a poor diet, foods we are intolerant to, medications and live in a poor environment this can all disrupt the normal balance of candida. When candida becomes unbalanced and starts to take over it can begin to break down the wall of the intestines and enter the bloodstream. Here it releases toxic byproducts that can cause leaky gut. Now for me this is one of the main things that I link back to why I got leaky gut in the first place.

How To Treat Candida?
When it comes to treating candida there are a few things to remember. First that it is something that thrives due to the unhealthy environment. Inflammation, poor diet, poor bacterial balance, medications, sugar, processed foods are all things that make it thrive not to mention the leaky gut that it caused in the first place. So in order to bring candida back into balance is about creating a healthy environment and good digestive health as a foundation. There are certain foods that can aggravate it and certain foods that can help reduce it. There are also medications and supplements that you can take for the symptoms, but if you don’t address the underlying issue of why it has overgrown you will always be dealing with the issue. I did this for about 5 years completely nieve to the fact that they were all connected and would still be continuing to deal with them had I not of got to the root cause of the issue.

Then main thing is that you start with addressing good gut health first and it about bringing balance back. For me I followed an autoimmune meal plan and had to pay particular attention to a few things that I would of otherwise thought of as great for healing your gut. Some foods that a incredible for your health, had to be tweeked while I was fixing candida issues and this is often the most frustrating thing because you read all this information on the net about gut health and these great foods, yet they just might not be quite right for you at this time. That doesn’t mean forever, just while there is an overgrowth happening.

How To Get Rid Of A Yeast Infection

First….
The most important place to begin is with building up your army of good gut bacteria by removing foods that encourage yeast to thrive including yeast or fungal foods. So all sugar, refined carbohydrates, coffee, alcohol, dried fruit, fruit juices, vinegars, fermented drinks and mushrooms.

Second…
We now need to promote and encourage good bacteria to repopulate and bring down inflammation while healing the gut. This is where I go into detail inside the online gym about the autoimmune meal plan as well as supplements to take for gut healing.

Thirdly….
Now is a time where you might want to start to tweek you diet to include more foods that help fight candida naturally.

Check out my next post where I share 10 foods to help fight candida naturally.

Once I understood what was going on with my body I was able to gain clarity as to what foods and supplements will really make a difference. There is so much information out there and it can be really confusing. This is why inside the online gym I have included a skin and beauty health program to help you on this journey.
