Power foods and drinks

So food is not just there to eat for the sake of it. Food is about so much more than this. Its fuel for your body, its about enjoyment, being creative and alot of the time food is about being social. We should enjoy food, and all it has to offer our bodies and health.

I am driven when eating by a few different things.

1. It has to taste good.

2. It has to make me feel good.

3. It has to give me energy and help my body and mind perform to its best.

4. I don’t want it to make me fat.

Here is a list of foods I call power foods, they should be apart of every meal.

Lean Protein – Chicken, fish, salmon, mussels, lean beef and lamb, lean pork, organic free range eggs, real organic yogurt, lentils, beans, chickpeas.

Vegetables – Spinach, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, berries, bananas, tomatoes, silver beet, beetroot, lettuce, oranges, grapefruit, kiwifruit, pineapple…..and lots more. Think vegetables that grow above the ground.

Starchy vegetables and grains - too be eaten, but no more than a fist size per meal. Potatoes, Kumara, squash (think those vegetables that grow below the ground) then your grains. Rice, quinoa, whole grain pastas….

Good fats and oils – Raw mixed nuts and seeds, coconut oil and milk, extra virgin olive oil, butter, fish oil.

Drinks – Water, green tea, black fresh coffee, vegetable juices, red wine
