Spring Cleansing Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are a serious game changer when it comes to creating energy and reducing cravings. Not only will they help you feel fuller for longer, they will also help reduce cravings and provide you with a huge array of vitamins and minerals you would other wise miss without them.

INGREDIENTS

2 stalks celery 4-5 leaves kale 1/2 avocado 1 banana 1 thumb ginger Water to cover Optional - two drops of food grade ginger essential oil
SERVES: 1

There are a few key things to remember when making a green smoothie.
First it should comprise of mainly vegetables, the greener the better.
Second stick to one fruit per smoothie, with the occasion of a mix of low sugar fruits. ie green apple, berries.
Then thirdy, am for spray free in season produce. Ideally organic, but more importantly spray free.

Then get creative and jam pack your blender with vegetables, for me each day I make a full blender worth of green smoothie, just for me. Ben makes himself one also.  This is around 1.5 – 2 litres and I will have 1-2 glasses with breakfast and lunch and then the rest wherever I need it during my day. If im out for the day its lunch, if I am heading up the mount for a walk half will be breakfast, sometimes a glass as a pick me up before a workout or ride on my horse. It doesn’t really matter, its my my non negotiable each day. I just make sure I consume the whole lot and the days I don’t I certainly know I will reach for the wrong things, over eat, be tired and just not feel as great.

So for me to be the best that I can be each day, this is something I ensure I get in. I tend to also make it the night before at the moment. Along with boiling some eggs for breakfast I make my smoothie. It just makes things quick and easy for me the next day and ensures I start it the best way possible.

So if you are looking at improving your health, start with a green smoothie each day. Even if you change nothing else, notice the roll on effect something as powerful as this can have on your choices and energy that day.

For this spring creation I have been loading up with what is in season from my weekly delivery from Mount Wholefoods. I simply jam pack my blender (high speed otherwise it will be lumpy ) and then store in glass jar in fridge. Its a really smooth and refreshing!

I actually took this recipe with me to share at the last smoothie club where we talked all about essential oils and I popped in two drops of food grade ginger oil, made it super zippy and refreshing. Loved it!

Instructions

Pop it all into a high speed blender and blitz up until smooth.
Enjoy! Drink within 24 hours.
