My Weekly Face Mask Ritual

my weekly face mask ritual

One of the favourite things I do for my skin is my weekly face mask ritual. Not only is this a great way to help cleanse and exfoliate my skin but it is also a great way to get vitamin c into it when I mix with fresh lemon. This naturally helps with inflammation while the clay helps draw out toxins and helps encourage recovery and repair. I try and get into the habit of doing this once a week and when I am being really good I aim to do it every 2-3 days. My skin tells me when it is ready for me to do it again, but often life just gets in the way.

Why Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays. You can use it externally as a clay poultice or mud pack to enhance the skins natural detoxification processes. Then you can use internally to allow the body to pull toxins out and enhance detoxification through the digestive system.

What Does it do?
Bentonite Clay is powerful because of the way in which it is made up. It produces an “electrical charge” when hydrated with water. When hydrated it swells like a porous sponge. It is this function that draws toxins towards it from its electrical charge. This electrical charge in bentonite is a powerful negative charge which bonds to the positive charge in many toxins. When it comes in contact with a toxin, chemical, or heavy metal, the clay will absorb the toxin and carry it out of the body. It even helps to eradicate the body from parasites and fungus. Not only that, bentonite clay has an alkalizing effect on the body and when taken correctly, it can help balance gut bacteria. These benefits are seen both on the surface of the skin and internally within the digestive system.

How Can It Help Perioral Dermatitis?
I try and get into the habit of taken it both internally and on my skin via a face mask. Inside the online gym I go into detail about how I add this to my daily routine internally. You see perioral dermatitis carries a positive charge so the electrical charge the clay can really help draw it out and help with fungal overgrowth and candida problems. It certainly helped with mine and it is one of the reasons I still use it today in both ways.

My Basic Bentonite Clay Mask

1 tablespoon Bentonite Clay
Juice from half a lemon
1 wooden spoon (don’t use metal as clay pulls metals out)

Place clay into a bowl and drizzle lemon over, stir with wooden spoon and keep adding juice until you get it to consistency of tooth paste.

Apply to a dry face all over and allow it to dry which is usually around 10-20 minutes. Then using warm water and a face cloth wash off your face.

Its normal for your face to be red for a bit afterwards, because the clay mask is potent and very stimulating. Give your skin an hour to fully stabilize if you are doing this before going out into public. I prefer to do this at night time for this reason.

DIY Deep Hydrating Face Mask
The second most favourite thing for my skin is this amazing home made nourishing skin mask I have made. Its an amazing combination of bees wax, manuka honey, cacao butter, jojoba oil, evening primrose oil and lavender. Pure luxury for my skin and it always feel amazing the next day when I wake up. Additionally, for those interested in complementing their skincare routine, you can explore options like Botox in Huntington Beach, CA to address specific cosmetic concerns and enhance your skin’s appearance.
